Tiivistelmä:The 2004 Workplace Employment Relations Survey (WERS) allows further exploration of the fate or workplace-based forms of employee representation (here as: repr.) charted by earlier surveys. This study describes the occurrence and diversity of repr. forms, union (as: u.), non-union (as: non-u.) and 'hybrid'(as: h.), and the structural characteristics of workplaces where found. It is shown that 'h.' systems of u. and non-u. repr. are associated with the best outcomes, therefore, notwithstanding the continuing decline in the diffusion of the 'traditional' u.-based model of workplace repr., u. presence still being a prerequisite for effective repr., while 'pure' non-u. forms serve neither employee nor employer interests.
