Tiivistelmä:This study examines two issues: 1. Assessed is the reliability of employment (here as: empl.) data self-generated (here as: s-gnd.) by respondents using a survey panel of 280 firms surveyed in 1999 and in 2002. The results show there to be a close correlation btw. s-gnd. and archival secondary data, 2. It is tested for bias in the recall of previous years' empl. levels and the sources of such bias. Three reasons for recall bias are assessed: respondent-level factors, firm-level factors, and anchoring. The regression results indicate that owners and new respondents, those in firms changing legal status and/or location, those in smaller firms, and those in growing or declining firms were biased in their recall of prior employment.
