Tiivistelmä:The impacts of rapid environmental change on organizations are discussed. The importance of adaptation is emphasized. Learning to manage dramatic change is described as a central issue of survival in the competitive environment. Key ingredients of large scale change are listed and analyzed. Pattern breaking, experimenting, visioning, bonding, and attunement are mentioned as the main processes. Balancing the elements is a critical factor. The roles of leadership, culture and learning are discussed. Indicators are presented for assessing an organization's propensity to change. The case of the IBM is examined.
