Tiivistelmä:A variation of Brown's /1959/ partial expectation approach to re-order level determination is proposed to control inventories with intermittent demand. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that such inventories typically possess positively skewed frequency profiles with a large spike at zero. The associated theory is outlined for both constant and stochastic delivery lead time. It is envisaged that forecast of demand are made on a regular basis, say at the end of each month. Emphasis is placed on the months registering some demand so that the forecast and the associated standard deviation are conditional on this event. It is assumed that the gap between successive demands is also estimated.
