| Tiivistelmä: | It is suggested that an organization's demographic composition influences communication. Little empirical evidence exists for the connection. Further, no work on organizational demography has examined the potentially different effects of various demographic variables on communication frequency. Data are obtained from the population of engineers and engineering managers in a research division of a medium-sized electronics firm. The results show a relationship between demography and communication frequency. Inside project groups, the age similarity exerts more influence on technical communication than tenure similarity. The opposite relationship seems to hold outside project groups. |
