Tiivistelmä:The Japanese keiretsu - societies of business - take two primary forms: bank-centered keiretsu are industrial combines of 20 to 50 core companies centered around a bank, supply keiretsu are groups of companies integrated along a supplier chain dominated by a major manufacturer. USA and European information technology companies face a severe choice: cooperate, or become vassals of their Japanese competitors, hang together or hang separately. New facts of information technology are overviewed. The brief history of Japan's keiretsu is presented. It is stated that digital components will never be commodities, but vendors will compete mainly on price and performance.
