Tiivistelmä:The flexible nature of the Japanese firm is developed and explored through an examination of company organization, and labour management. As formal organization can be de-emphasized only to the extent that there is a surrogate , an informal form of directing activity will be presented in a governing principle simple labelled "process". Such a process-orientation is illustrated by comparing the nature of quality control circles in Japan and the United States. "Ganbare" is described, an emotional attitude toward work diametrically opposed to structuralism which represents a very human dimension nurtures and demands a flexible operating environment.
