| Tiivistelmä: | The distributional properties of financial ratios are investigated using samples from UK manufacturing companies over the period 1973-81. A mixture of distribution-free technique and judgement were used to identify outliners. The results revealed that the normality assumption was rejected far more frequently in the case of the larger and less homogeneous sample compared with smaller and more homogeneous samples. Intertemporal analysis of the data showed that departure from normality was persistent over time. The impact of delection of outliners and data transformation on the distributional properties of the ratios is also evaluated. |
