Tiivistelmä:Two difficulties that process control managers face in the selection of input levels are the simultaneous optimization of multiple, possible conflicting output specifications, and the risk of violating the specifications when the functional relationship of input and output variables is modelled with regression. By incorporating prediction-interval constraints into a goal-programming model, the paper proposes a new approach that will help process-control managers in overcoming these difficulties. A process-control problem, originally solved by the desirability-function approach, is solved using this model. Comparisons between the two approaches are discussed.
