| Tiivistelmä: | The hypothesis of efficient political markets is inconsistent with evidence from democratic sates that voters are not indifferent to international frontiers and level of decentralization, and that certain provinces may receive long-run rents. The authors propose a model of spatial competition and test it with German public-spending data for 1872-1986. The test favors the spatial approach. |
