| Tiivistelmä: | The author examines the relation between consumption and welfare. Reducing overall consumption levels in rich countries is central to ecologically and socially benign development. This paper argues that the compromise which often results from the conflict between maximising and limiting consumption, is unjustified, detrimental to the aim of sustainable improvement in welfare, and to an ecological economics project centred on this aim. |
