Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the relationship btw. material resource use and economic growth. A material flow analysis (MFA) is used to quantify resource flows and indicate resource productivity. Resource use of countries is compared with respect to total material requirement (TMR) and direct material input (DMI). It is shown that there is no significant absolute decline of direct material input per capita so far in the course of economic growth (except Czech Republic). The results of an econometric panel analysis show a trend towards a relative decoupling btw. GDP and DMI in all countries. Finally, the structure of TMR varies highly btw. countries. |
