Tiivistelmä:An attempt is made to explain how cultural theory and political ideology affect mass media in the islam world. Although many other local and alien influences, it is claimed that qur*an and hadith are the two most powerful and widely accepted sources of cultural theory in the muslim world. It is reminded that people have their fundamental rights to know, read, write and speak and that mass media have their function of fulfilling those needs. The author also identifies a certain lack of fit -a fault line- between muslim cultural theory and muslim reality with regard to political ideology and mass media.
