Tiivistelmä:The article, an introduction to the Special Issue of the Journal of Business Ethics, discusses the causes and consequences of long work hours, an issue that has been growing in recent years, in particular among managers and professionals. It is considered why individuals and organizations should care about working long hours. According to the paper, employees generally would prefer working less hours, but this preference often remains unnoticed by their employer. The author argues that work addiction and excessive work hours harm employees and their families, and does not increase the company's effectiveness either. A brief review of leading research on the area is provided.
