| Tiivistelmä: | Contrary to the popular belief, not all employees jump at the chance to work abroad. To overcome misgivings and objections, many corporations offer various incentives and "perks" to foreign service employees. Among the many reasons of reticence there are the following ones: family considerations, safety considerations, language barriers, career concerns etc.. It is shown that both the company and the individual face various risks and problems in an overseas assignment; inability to adapt to the new environment, misunderstanding the local laws or customs. The abundance of incentives can hurt morale among local employees. Several practical suggestions are offered to minimize or avoid risks whenever possible. |
