| Tiivistelmä: | The near-term prospects for sub-Saharan Africa's two principal soft commodities, coffe and cocoa, are being undermined by continuous supply-surpulses. Tea and sugar prices however, remain firm. About one-third of the region's non-oil commodity exports comprise of cocoa and coffee. In January 2000, African Business warned of an impending crisis for coffee growers in the current season. This has now occurred and with very low prices also prevailing for cocoa. |
