| Tiivistelmä: | The economic order quantity (EOQ) model with two levels of storage is considered and significant improvements are made over it by incorporating realistic assumptions. It is assumed that the demand varies over time with a linear (positive) trend and that the cost of transporting units from rented warehouse to owned warehouse depends on the quantity to be transported. The model is formulated and solved first without allowing backlogging. It is reformulated and solved again under the assumptions that shortages in inventory are allowed and backlogged. The results are illustrated with numerical examples. |
