| Tiivistelmä: | The state of the east German economy continues to give cause for concern. While it may appear that the crisis is now over, the underlying "health" of the economy in the new federal states remains poor. The economy is still dependent on a high volume of government transfers, and large numbers of firms would go under if their life support of public resources were removed. So far real progress in creating a new economic base has only been achieved in the branches producing largely for regional and local markets. |
