Tiivistelmä:The effects of the expected fall in domestic crude oil production over the next decade in Australia are examined. Due to this reduction net imports of crude oil could increase sharply over the period. The ORANI model was used to quantify the general equilibrium effects of this fall, assuming a range of economic environments. Real gross domestic product and the real exchange rate would decline slightly. Output from export and import-competing sectors, excluding the oil and services to mining industries, would increase. Output from the services would not change significantly. The substantial expected increase in production of coal, uranium over the next decade have the potential to more than offset the macroeconomic effects of the fall.
