| Tiivistelmä: | This article compares the ownership and financial structures and performance of European listed (LCs) and large non-listed companies (NLCs). It finds that the substantial majority of NLCs have either a large or medium blockholder, whereas LCs usually have no large blockholder. The paper provides information on typology of large blockholders as well as financial ratios in LCs and NLCs. The findings indicate that NLCs use relatively less fixed assets and they are more capital intensive that LCs. NLCs have higher returns on assets and equity, but lower margins. |
