Tiivistelmä:This article deals with the relationship between economic wealth, national culture and the level of software piracy. It is based on the Hofstede's national culture dimensions. Based on a larger sample than has previously been available (57 countries), confirmed is the expected negative relationship between economic wealth, culture (individualism and masculinity) and levels of software piracy. However, the software piracy's decline rate, however, is found to be a cultural phenomenon, with two factors, that is, power distance (PDI) and uncertainty avoidance (UAI) working in opposition. There are similar results found for a subset of 37 relatively poor countries. There is also discussion on global strategies for dealing with software piracy.
