Tiivistelmä:Corporate social responsibility (CSR) plays the main role in the debate on the operations of transnational (here as: t-n.) corporations in the developing countries. Some t-n. corporations are set in a collision course with their Niger Delta host communities demanding environmental sustainability. Unresponsiveness of oil firms to community demands for CSR is increasing the volatility of the Nigerian oil industry. Until oil firms initiate authentic CSR strategies to address the environmental damage from their operations, this problem will intensify. At the core of the strategies is recognizing the host communities as bona fide stakeholders and addressing their socioeconomic needs.
