| Tiivistelmä: | This article explores the factors that affect the relations between research and higher education: research and higher education systems that are in a flux, the deep crisis in the traditional European universities, the impact of mass education and related differentiation and the suboptimal aspect of the traditional university. The author argues that changes will lead to a fundamental restructuring of research, and new relations to higher education, with the convergence of academic excellence and commercial demand and political decision-making. |
