| Tiivistelmä: | On the basis of studies of 35 personnel managers who had introduced computers and a detailed comprehensive case study of the introduction of computers into the personnel function, the factors that differentiate adaptors are examined. The 35 managers who were interviewed were classified in four categories: stars (3), radicals (8), plodders (12), beginners (12). The critical role of the personnel manager in facilitating successful adoption, the role of the computer in changing the shape of the personnel function, its power and professionalization are considered. Possible alternative approaches to the development of personnel function on the basis of computers are highlighted. Several future challenges are specified. |
