| Tiivistelmä: | This paper presents the core arguments and a critique of institutional theory. Subsequently, presented are the findings of two empirical studies on the adoption of ISO 9000 standards. The results of the studies illustrate the high explanatory power of institutional theory. However, some arguments of institutional theory have to be qualified. Besides external pressures to adopt the standards, as argued in institutional theory, considerations of the internal technical efficiency play an important role in the decision whether and how to adopt ISO 9000 standards (original in German). |
