| Tiivistelmä: | The trend profile method for forecasting gross demand is discussed. Using data for one particular mail order company, the accuracy of this method is explored, and its sources of error are identified. Suggestions are made about how the accuracy of the method can be increased via improved estimation of the trend profiles used. An assessment of the proposed improvements in made by determining their potential effects on both forecasting accuracy and stock control performance. The results should also be relevant to forecasting demand in other situations involving seasonal merchandise. |
