Tiivistelmä:The question is examined whether smoking cessation affects experience of life in both work and nonwork arenas. Four groups are identified: individuals who have never smoked, smokers, exsmokers at the time the study begins, and people who stop smoking during the study. Individuals who stopped smoking recently report lower levels of job satisfaction, more job-related tensions, and an increase in short-term work absence. Additionally, smoking cessation appears to affect general mood, as indicated by lower levels for reported quality of life and increased levels of depression, anxiety, and negative affect. This provides support for the position that smoking cessation affects job perceptions through its influence on personal mood.
