| Tiivistelmä: | This paper has examined the development of universities in Nigeria, the trends of the tota student enrolment and the academic programmes in the Nigerian Universities. It also discusses the trends in University financing up to 1992 and the factors that have contributed to the financial constraints facing Nigerian Universities. The paper notes that, apart from the fact that, the total recurrent and capital grants released to the Federal Universities have been haphazards relative to the situation in the economy, the real value of the grants has been drastically reduced when the high inflation rate and depreciation of Naira are taken into consideration. |
