Tiivistelmä:The author considers the question how companies can get better value from returning expatriate managers. In order to explore the strategies and processes available to expatriates to embed their learning into their organisations as well as to identify the barriers that block the transformation of individual learning to organizational learning, the author undertook a study in two German-based companies. One is in the banking sector and the other in the pharmaceutical industry. The research interviews showed that the expatriates gained a wide variety of types of knowledge while abroad that they could offer as a resource to their organisations after their return. The author answers the question what these companies actually did and what more they could have done to use the learning acquired by their expatriates.
