| Tiivistelmä: | The author asserts that a researcher interested in the role of facial movements in everyday communication will make ambiguous statements if he bases them on generic coding systems. Generic as opposed to descriptive coding systems do not permit unambiguous representation of the nonverbal phenomena represented. A procedure is discussed which allows the researcher who uses descriptive coding to recapture the dimension of meaning in order to make relevant statements about everyday communication. |
