| Tiivistelmä: | Double articulation implies a specific cognitive competence, the use of tools to build more tools. In nonlinguistic systems signs of the second articulation are metaphorically used signs of the first articulation, i.e. sense- determinative signs are transformed into sense-discriminative ones. The article pays special attention to the economic motivation of double articulation. |
