Tiivistelmä:Skill-based pay is one of the newest innovative approaches to compensation.Skill-based pay systems haven't been widely researched so far.In order to advance our understanding of skill-based pay, a model that describes the antecedents and characteristics of successful skill-based pay systems is presented here, based on a research of 97 U.S. companies.It contains three set of predictors: organizational characteristics, nature of the work, and the reasons for using skill-based pay.The model details how each set of predictors leads to particular characteristics of skill-based pay systems, use of training and supportive programs in organization, and to degree of employee and management involvement in development and installation of the system, and how these outcomes lead to the development of different types of skill-based pay success, namely increased quality of human resources, higher motivation and satisfaction, greater employee-organization fit and lower labor cost.
