In their recent general election, Germans returned a much- weakened government. But the colour of german politics has never had a significant effect on its domestic equity market, and it is unlikely to do so this time. And the Bundesbank's much-heralded independence ensures that bond markets are generally unmoved by political changes. In contrast, the French equity market has underperformed Germany's this year precisely because investors are concerned about the shenanigans of politicians. |
