| Tiivistelmä: | Justifying investments in Advanced Manufacturing Technology has proved to be a rather complex issue for production mana- gement. Although being aware of its strategic character, practitioners not seldom seem to neglect that aspect in decision calculus due to inappropriate management support methodes. Conventional approaches for investment justifica- tion on the one hand are focusing exclusively on "hard" de- cision criteria like costs or paybacks, whereas qualitative methods such as scoring models on the other hand empha- size "soft" investment variables while lacking precise quan- tification of the hard ones. Some methodical progress has been made by merging these traditional approaches into multi-perspective or multi-layer frameworks in order to strenghten the strategic dimension of investment decision processes.
