| Tiivistelmä: | In this article the authors investigate implications on institutional constraints to multinational corporations (MNCs) in the theme of emission trading. The authors explain that as MNCs face a wide variety of emissions trading schemes that differ in scope and enforcement, there is a creation of divergent levels of institutional constraints across locations. In addition the paper examines MNCs responses to emission trading schemes in how they see them as opportunities to reshape the institution. Findings of the article indicate that constraints; particularly emission trading schemes in the EU area are commonly exposed as well as the opportunities being researched or already exploited in different ways in this scheme and emerging ones. Based on the findings the authors suggest a framework that discerns four scenarios for MNCs: institutional evader, institutional conformist, institutional arbitrageur and institutional entrepreneur. |
