| Tiivistelmä: | Political and strategic considerations of the United States concerning political integration in Europe are described. The trade policy of the country is analyzed. Data are presented about the formation and enlargements of the EC on US trade. The background of the disputes is outlined, especially disputes from the second enlargement of the EC. The legal and economic problems of the competition for market shares are described. Retaliation is mentioned as a strategic trade policy option. A number of macroeconomic determinants of the demand for retaliation are identified. The importance of minimizing the sources of trade conflicts and destructive trade wars is stressed. |
