| Tiivistelmä: | The reason why a reduction of production time is preferred is the fact that in case of decreasing employment a reduction of production time leads to lower cost than a reduction of production speed. It is examined whether reduction of production time still leads to lower costs, if the payments for working short-time are added to the cost of reducing production time. The result shows that in the case of decreasing employment a reduction in production speed can stand a comparison with a reduction in production time as far as costs are concerned. Therefore it should be given more consideration, as it leads neither to short-time work nor to lay-offs. |
