| Tiivistelmä: | Yield unpredictability of many manufacturing processes involved in the fabrication and assembly of high-tech components makes it extremely difficult to schedule and control production, especially when several such stages occur in sequence. A relatively simple procedure is developed to determine optimal input quantities for each process stage of a serial production system with stochastic yields. An application is presented to the manufacture of light-emitting diode displays, using actual data, that suggests that the variances of the yield rates, and not just the averages, are important. |
