| Tiivistelmä: | The European Community EC has set itself the goal of achieving a US-like "integrated economy" by 1992. In spite of the constant quarrels over specific issues this effort seems likely to succeed. However, America has not given this important process the attention it deserves. The EC's industrial integration strategy is overviewed. Information technology/telecommunication is seen as "the leading industry" that will generate economic growth and determine Europe's geopolitical strength. The results of a SWOT analysis (SWOT - Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats) of European telecommunications are described and discussed. The response of the US government and the American industry will be critical to the final outcome. |
