| Tiivistelmä: | Contrary to traditional inventory theory, several new production management concepts strongly suggest that a reduction of lot sizes is unconditionally desirable. The paper presents the findings of a simulation study in which the relations between lot sizes, capacity utilization, inventory levels and lead times are analyzed for various situations. The results of this study show that lot size reduction can by no means be regarded as a panacea for solving the respective production management problems. |
