Tiivistelmä:A market of 140 million consumers has suddenly opened in Eastern Europe, all eager for the goods denied them since World War II. Throughout the turbulence , Hungary and Poland have been the trend-setters of European-style perestroika. Legislative reforms introducing market forces and giving way to privatization are surveyed. The problems of foreign investments are discussed. The most daunting problem to the aspiring investor is a complete lack of infrastructure. Professional services are also in short supply. The workforce throughout the Socialist world lacks either a competitive drive or a will to perform. Views of experts on the necessary measures are reported and some possible trends are indicated.
