Tiivistelmä:Purpose of this paper is to conceptualize rural-cultural tourism and define variables involved in the image formation of destinations. In addition, the study determines characteristics of rural-cultural tourist. The paper is based on qualitative and quantitative empirical research. The findings reveal variables that consist of the cognitive and affective components of tourism. These components address historical and cultural heritage of the area, the cleanliness and atmosphere of the location and the received service. The typical tourist is a educated adult, loyal to these places and likes relaxation and visiting new places. The paper also provides suggestions for development of tourism management tools.
