| Tiivistelmä: | The purpose of this paper is to examine intra-industry trade (IIT) in the EU member states and to study its determinants. The authors focus on vertical intra-industry trade during the period 1985-1996. In these years, European integration accelerated, reflecting a greater ap preciation of its economic and political benefits. Nevertheless, there are few studies about the consequences of the Single Market on intra-industry trade of every EU member state. The paper tests the hypothesis that specialization in high-quality exports is explained by comparative advantage based on differences in technological, physical and human capital endowments. |
