Tiivistelmä:The UK (along with Ireland) is the only member of EU having no generally applicable system of employee representation through work-councils or other similar bodies. EC Directives require information and consultation of representatives, but the UK has provided for this only where an employer has chosen to recognise a trade union for collective bargaining purposes. There are two cases analysed in the article, when the European Court of Justice has found this approach unsatisfactory, and now the UK is obliged to legislate worker representation for information and consultation purposes in business transfers and collective redundancies.
