| Tiivistelmä: | The German system of industrial relations is characterised by a dual structure of employee representation through works councils and unions. This paper analyses the interaction effect of works councils with establishment size and with collective bargaining agreements. Using panel data from German manufacturing establishments, it is shown that there is a positive impact of works councils on productivity also in smaller establishments with 21-100 employees. However, this positive effect depends on the coverage by a collective bargaining agreement (original in German). |
