Tiivistelmä:The concept of self-management in the light of Yugoslavia's break from the Soviet bloc. The main phases of its historical development. The problematic features in the world context. A set of economic interdependencies with the world market system. It is argued that self-management is largely a myth in a country which is interdependent with a dominantly capitalist worldwide market system. Some difficulties arise from the fractions and pressure groups which consistently put their own interests above those of the nation. Attempts are made theoretically transcend the nation state as the primary level of analysis. Progressive decentralization which is a natural consequence of self-management is counteracted by bureaucratic organs and practices.
