| Tiivistelmä: | This study's analysis rests on a relatively model-free and distribution-free testing strategy to explore the dependence of business cycle fluctuations on the repetitive intra-year dynamics of the economic environment. The study relies on business cycle chronologies, more than one was used to assess robustness, and adopts a set of nonparametric tests applied to business cycle duration data. The results reinforce findings of reported in Ghysels (1991, 1994b) regarding a periodic structure in the propensity to change business cycle phases. Business cycle durations appear to be seasonal. |
