| Tiivistelmä: | The present-day political and economic situation in the former East Germany is described and suggestions for companies planning expansion to Eastern Europe are offered in the article. The influence of German unification on Europe is analysed. The need for a system of collective security is stressed. A former East German tool factory facing all the typical problems of manufacturing revitalization is taken as an example and key issues of reorganizing are outlined. The aspects of economic changes which are examined include privatization, international investment, promotion of free trade. A detailed description of German Chamber of Commerce is presented. Key future goals of overcoming the communist legacy are outlined. Educational reform is discussed. |
