Although bread consumption has risen slightly in the last three years, severe price-cutting by retailers has continued to reduce its value and its share of food expenditure. Price-cutting has mainly affected standard white sliced loaves, which have increased their volume share to just over half, although their value share of the overall market has continued to fall. Consumption is higher in childless and low-income households. |
