| Tiivistelmä: | This report is the second in a series of DIW reports on poverty trends in east Germany. If poverty is defined in terms of income distribution in east Germany, poverty rates have begun to rise once more. If, on the other hand, poverty in east Germany is measured in terms of average incomes in west Germany, the narrowing of the wealth gap between the two regions means that poverty rates initially fell strongly and are still declining steadily. |
